Muscle | Fascia Release

Dr. Baker – Your Royse City & Rockwall Chiropractor

Muscle release is a type of massage and stretching that releases tension on the connective tissue that surrounds muscles, bones, nerves, and organs. This tissue is called fascia. And the tension can be caused by trauma, poor posture, inflammation, or for other reasons.

This tension can result in pain, lack of mobility, and other problems. Muscle release can help relieve that pain, and improve mobility. Benefits also include improving blood and lymphatic circulation, both of which are vital for proper recovery and health.

There are various muscle release techniques that we may use including:

·        Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

·        Pin and Stretch

·        Trigger Point Release

·        Percussion

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM)

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, or IASTM, involves the use of various instruments to assist in the process of muscle and fascia release.  This approach to soft tissue work reduces friction and allows for increased precision, sensitivity, and depth that often cannot be accomplished with the hands alone.

By using such tools, we can often detect and treat soft tissue abnormalities that the clinician alone cannot detect.  The tools used with IASTM magnify abnormalities such as scar tissue and adhesions and make them easier to treat, making for a more efficient and longer lasting treatment.

One of the goals of IASTM is to trigger an inflammatory response that stimulates the healing process and makes for a less painful, speedier, and more functional recovery.

Benefits of IASTM

·        Improves mobility

·        Stimulates rehabilitation and recovery time

·        Reduces the need for anti-inflammatory medication

·        Can resolve chronic conditions thought to be permanent

·        Patients can continue to engage in everyday activities
